kayaking

paddlesport taster (PST)

Pre Requisites: None

Course Information: A 1 1/2 hour session designed to get you hooked on paddlesports. You will experience paddling kayaks and canoes and learn new skills in a fun way.

Assessment: There is no assessment. This is all about having fun, practicing and progressing at your own speed however your instructor will happily give you an action plan to help you work on the skills you have learnt in your own time.

What is provided? All paddling equipment and protective equipment.

complete paddlesport taster (CPST)

Pre Requisites: None

Course Information: A full day session designed to teach you the basic skills required to handle a kayak and canoe. You will gain a better understanding of how to progress in the sport which will help you decide if you want to continue to progress in one or both disciplines.

Assessment: There is no assessment. This is all about having fun, practicing and progressing at your own speed however your instructor will happily give you an action plan to help you work on the skills you have learnt in your own time.

What is provided? All paddling equipment and protective equipment.

paddling club (PC)

Pre Requisites: A desire to learn and a love for the outdoors.

Course Information: The weekly club sessions are aimed at like-minded individuals that may want to learn new skills, experience what a new river or lake has to offer or just a chance to paddle with others and make friends for life. Skills will be taught and revisited each week and everyone has the chance to tick off the Creative Outdoors Paddle Skills Passport as they go without the pressure of assessments.

Assessment: This is all about getting outdoors and having fun although the Paddle Skills Passport can be completed as your instructors sees you complete a requirement.

What is provided? All personal protection equipment, kayaks, canoes and instruction is provided. If you have your own paddling equipment please feel to use it however please show it to your instructor prior the start of the course so they can check its suitability and serviceability.

british canoeing 1 star (BC1)

Pre Requisites: None

Course Information: A two day course that covers the full BC 1 star syllabus with a chance to experience kayak, canoe and paddleboarding. You will leave feeling confident about controlling the boat and with a wider understanding of the sport.

Assessment: The award is assessed continuously throughout the course to create a more relaxed approach.

What is provided? All paddling equipment and protective equipment.

british canoeing 2 star kayak (BC2K)

Pre Requisites: None although BC 1 Star is useful. Creative Outdoors BC 2 Star canoe course is required to complete the full BC 2 Star award.

Course Information: A two day course that covers the full BC 2 star kayak syllabus. The Creative Outdoors BC 2 Star Kayak course is required to complete the full BC 2 Star award. The skills you will learn build on your 1 star skills and introduce support strokes, rescues, moving sideways and other turning strokes. We recognise that sometimes you need more time to master your chosen discipline so we offer you a weekend in each craft, resulting in a better practiced and more rounded paddler.

Assessment: The award is assessed continuously throughout the course to create a more relaxed approach.

What is provided? All paddling equipment and protective equipment.

british canoeing 2 star (BC2S)

Pre Requisites: None although BC 1 Star and previous paddling experience in both a kayak and canoe is preferable.

Course Information: A two day course that covers the full BC 2 star syllabus, in both a kayak and a canoe. If you have previous paddling experience or you are a quick learner then this option is for you. The skills you will learn build on your 1 star skills and introduce support strokes, rescues, moving sideways and other turning strokes. The BC 2 star award is an excellent stepping stone into the world of coaching and leading.

Assessment: The award is assessed continuously throughout the course to create a more relaxed approach.

What is provided? All paddling equipment and protective equipment.

rolling clinic (RC)

Pre Requisites: Basic knowledge of kayaking

Course Information: This weekly club session will give you the chance to attend regular progressive training, with like minded paddlers, that is designed to get you rolling your kayak efficiently. The sessions will also give you the tools to deal with different situations, adding a variety of rolls to your repertoire, and working on core skills that will make your roll safe, effective and effortless.

Assessment: There is no assessment. This is all about having fun, practicing and progressing at your own speed however your instructor will happily give you an action plan to help you work on the skills you have learnt in your own time.

What is provided? We believe it is important to use your own equipment if you have it but please show it to your instructor at the beginning of the session so that they can check its suitability. Any equipment used in the pool must be scrubbed and cleaned prior to use. We can supply kayaks, spray decks, buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles on request, however these must be booked in advance. If you want to buy any equipment prior to your session please have a look at our shop. It can be sent to you in preparation for your session or we can have it ready for you to use when you arrive.
